About Scott R. McMillen

Scott McMillen is a trial lawyer licensed in Florida and Georgia who has spent more than four decades in medical malpractice litigation. He started on the defense side, representing hospitals and doctors, then switched to plaintiffs’ work and stayed there. He has authored chapters of the Florida Medical Malpractice Handbook (published by The. Florida Bar), written the monthly malpractice column for the Journal of the Florida Justice Association for over twenty years, published articles about malpractice in the Florida Bar Journal, and served on the Board of Governors of both the Florida Bar and the State Bar of Georgia. He has also served as co-chair of the Florida Bar’s Disciplinary Review Committee, and served on the Georgia Bar’s Standing Committee on Professionalism. The view from both sides of the courtroom — and the gap between what the law allows and what people actually do with it — informs everything he writes.

His short story about a 1960s Orlando childhood appeared in Saw Palm: Florida Literature and Art, the literary journal of the University of South Florida. He lives in Mount Dora.

Loss of Consortium, his debut novel, is currently in progress.

Mr. McMillen continues to practice law. More about his work at https://floridamalpractice.com
